Time tracking, with code!
I’ve spent some more time working on my toggl physical interface:
The timer now uses the more familiar mechanic of an old-fashioned punchclock
the RFID reader is only reset when a card is read (speeds up reads)
The arduino reader unit handles the reading of tags. On punch-out, the reader prints the tag id, and the number of seconds between punch-in time and punch-out time. the toggl.py...

Time tracking, with tokens.
A while back, I was shown (http://toggl.com)[Toggl], a website that allows you to track how you spend your time. The site is great, but what if my current task (or hobby) doesn’t involve a computer?
I’ve just completed a functional prototype for a physical interface to Toggl. Tokens, containing RFID tags, are placed on a time-tracking pedestal. An Arduino microcontroller beneath the...

Chris Eckert is pretty awesome. I love the exposed mechanical elements in Gimme.

Teensy?
Anyone have experience working with Teensy?
the builtin USB support would make it great for making physical controls for software systems.

android: sending SMS message on Verizon
Sometimes, writing android apps is harder than writing iPhone apps. Mostly, because android phones run on a wide variety of carrier networks, each with their own “quirks”…
For the last couple years, android apps could send text messages with the following snippet of code:
import android.telephony.gsm.SmsManager;
// some other stuff omitted.
SmsManager sm =...

my ttTumblr fork works!
I’ve cranked out the first functional version of my changes to ttTumblr.
My changes so far are restricted to Text and Image posting methods, but the rest will be added soon.
a Service now makes all the http calls, so they are less likely to be interrupted by app death
Options! - posts can now toggle the tweeting and privacy at post time in the options menu
Multiple Tumblelogs! - set...

tests passed
sorry about the spammy posts. i’ve been working on some additions to ttTumblr.
So far, i’ve converted the Text and Image posts to use a Service, instead of just spinning off threads. Oh, and ttTumblr now appears in the “Share” menu from within the Gallery app.
code’s over at github.

such a stupid problem. this solution /kind of/ makes sense.
you need a pound-sterling, it looks like an L with a ‘=’ across it.

My Triumphant return to SF
Ok, here’s the deal. i return from my epic trip to London next week. I have missed SF, and all of my friends. You should welcome me home by coming by my place some time Thursday (the 27th).
I cannot be bothered to make this any kind of formal party, as that requires planning, and giving a crap, neither of which i will be capable of doing after a 12-13 hour flight.
I will provide:

Hiveminder fixes
Apparently Hiveminder broke my app with some unannounced changes. If you’re seeing problems like:
the popup (toast) is blank after you braindump
the task list appears empty, but you have stuff to do
You’re probably running into these issues. its not up on the market yet, as its untested, but here’s a qr code:
also the code can be found at github

Abstract Latitude, v1
With the rising popularity of these location-based services like foursquare and Latitude, I’ve been putting a lot of thought into what this kind of social network might look like when not visualised on a map.
I’d also been hearing a lot about Processing, and i figured this was a good way to give it a shot.
Here’s what i’ve come up with:
Oh, and its interactive, so...

Klaxon v20 release candidate
Featuring a complete rewrite of the SMS parsing! There are now 3 different types of Sms Parser (see Preferences -> Sms Settings -> Page Parser Type).
Standard - should work for most sms providers.
Go2Mobile - a reasonably popular email -> sms gateway in Europe.
Labeled Fields - some providers add labels, like “Subj:”
